We have woken up to a significant drop in temperature this morning, which has left us thinking about cosy activities to enjoy in London. Understandably we don’t want to be wandering the streets when it’s this chilly if we can possibly help it, so here are some cute and cosy winter activities for you to enjoy during your next visit.
You are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs in London. Whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find exactly what you want without too much difficulty. Maybe it’s sheltering from the cold in the Camden docks or somewhere for a relaxing lunch in Richmond, or somewhere to nip into for a quick warming drink while you’re doing your Christmas shopping. One of our favourites is the Punch and Judy in Covent Garden, though we’d love to know your favourite pub for winter in the comments.
Leicester Square is hands down the best place for cinemas in London, though there are lots of little independent cinemas outside the West End which are perfect for catching an arthouse movie. The Aubin Cinema in Shoreditch always shows the latest releases in the indie cinema world, and you can snuggle up on one of the comfy sofas and warm yourself under one of the blankets provided to keep off the winter chill.
When it comes to warming winter food, you can’t beat classic English cuisine. Traditional pies and bangers and mash can be found everywhere in London, and the traditional British food revival in recent years has seen many higher end restaurants opening up offering exactly this. Alternatively, head to Brick Lane for a curry that will chase away any cold and keep you feeling pleasantly warm with spicy satisfaction.
While Regent’s Park can be great for a stroll in summer, it’s not so fun when the temperatures drop. Fortunately, many of London’s best art galleries are free, so get a bit of culture in your trip to London and head to an art exhibition. You can spend many an hour gazing at all sorts of art, from more traditional pieces to avant-garde contemporary exhibitions, and the best part is that you won’t slip on a rogue patch of ice once.
